Imphal, May 06 2026: The Tribal Youths Council Manipur (TYCM), Council Headquarters, has formally approached the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, seeking a legislative resolution to amend the long-standing Presidential Order of 1972.In a representation submitted to the HAC Chairman on May 5, the TYCM requested the Committee to endorse a memorandum it sent to the President of India on April 15 and forward the resolution to Rashtrapati Bhavan to speed up the process.

The council said the 1972 order needs changes to give HAC stronger powers over legislative and executive functions, financial autonomy, land management and protection of customary practices.

The TYCM maintained that these amendments are essential for effective governance and protection of tribal interests in the State.
