Credit Union Ukhrul celebrates 25 years of service

Credit Union Ukhrul (CUU) commemorated its 25th anniversary at its CU complex conference hall under the theme Be Filled with Thanksgiving' in Ukhrul town on May 1 .
As a micro financial institution, Credit Union prides itself 6n establishing tailored financial solutions that align with the unique social needs of its members.
Reflecting on the journey, CUU president Avai Horam expressed gratitude for the divine guidance that has sustained the organisation for a quarter-century.
Credit Union was established in the year 1998 .
It is God's grace that has brought us to this milestone and we give him all the glory and honour, he stated.
Silver Jubilee Committee convener Dr Ngahorshai Luithui, in his speech at the event, emphasised the weighty responsibilities of Credit Union.
He implored the community to foster economic unity across generations and working judi ciously for the betterment of the Tangkhul community.
He expressed hope that God would continue to guide Credit Union, serving as an inspiration for future generations.
Luithui added that there is a unique story of God's love in Tangkhul land.
William Pettigrew brought light to the Tangkhuls as he opened his eyes spiritually and introduced an education system that has helped people to grow and enhance the region's economy as well.
He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Capt Ashok Y Tipnis, the man who established Volunteers for Village Development (WD), his family and colleagues for their needed help and unceasing support in setting up various societies to improve the economy of people in the region.
Attending the celebration as chief guest, DC Ukhrul Kengoo Zuringla congratulated the CUU and expressed her appreciation to the visionaries of CU who are retired government servants and committed themselves to render financial assistance to those in need by establishing a financial credit institution.
The vision of the pioneers who started this venture to serve the Tangkhul have come a long way in alleviating the difficulties faced by those who needed financial assistance from banking in stitutions, Kengoo exhorted.
Ukhrul ML A Ram Muivah also sent his greetings to the CUU on the anniversary.
In his message, Muivah complimented the founders/pioneers and current promoters of CU for their foresight and vision.
In the absence of adequate lending institutes in Ukhrul, limited availability of bank branches, Credit Union has been rendering yeoman service in the field of advanc ing loans to the Tangkhul people in particular and Manipur in general over the past 25 years and counting, he said and urged the CUU to keep up the momentum.
TNL president in-charge RS Jollyson also expressed his appreciation to the Credit Union for achieving the significant landmark.
He wished Tangkhuls to think beyond individual cocoons as there are hardly any people who have the desire to work together as partners and take up bigger projects.
He urged the CU to focus on education, suggesting that educated individuals and well-to-do can collaborate, invest and work together to improve the education system to mould the children and not for profit-oriented and commercialised purposes.
'It takes time to build the system but to build a wealthy, healthy and peaceful society, we need to focus on education.
When we talk about investment, let's not only go business or economy but I would like to appeal to kindly focus on education as well.
As Credit Union reaches its milestone of 25 years, let this celebration be a happy one*' said Jollyson.
Former project director of WD Tennyson Kazingmei opined that Credit Union is an idea and it is not only a programme and activity but an idea.
We need to work on that idea or otherwise, the idea is dead, Kazingmei said and also released the 'Credit Union Silver Jubilee Souvenir (1998-2024)' during the celebration.
