Ukhrul, December 16 2023:
Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah has stated that films are an important medium to showcase the local culture, customs and way of life to the outside world.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function of Tangkhul Naga Film Festival 2023 held at public ground, Winotang in Ukhrul district headquarters on Friday, the MLA stressed on the significance of telling local stories to the world through films.
"Through this medium, we can make the world aware of our unique history and cultural identity.
It is necessary to portray our culture, traditions and unique history to the world and films are an effective way to achieve this goal," he said.
Ram Muivah also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of local filmmakers towards showcasing the local talents and promoting the film industry in the district.
The MLA urged the local filmmakers to continue telling their stories through films and to use this medium to introduce the world to the rich history and traditions of Tangkhul people.
He also expressed his appreciation to the organisers for their efforts in organising the film festival.
However, the frigid weather of the winter season in Ukhrul prompted the MLA to propose hosting the film festival in the months of February or March.
"This timing would be more suitable and advantageous for organising such a large-scale event," he said.
The two-day festival, which took place on Thursday and Friday, also featured an array of captivating musical concerts.
Among the highlights was the performance by renowned Indian artiste Sonam Topden, who travelled all the way from Manali, Himachal Pradesh to enchant audiences at the hill station.
The musical night also saw a dynamic performance by the talented all-female band, 'The Spectrums,' hailing from Mokokchung, Nagaland.
The festival was also attended by Mrs Asia Pacific Intercontinental 2019 Sylvia Adaphro, as a showstopper.
Adding to the star studded line-up were renowned figures such as Padma Shri awardee Guru Rewben Mashangva and evergreen singer Thangmeiso Shinglai.
Notably, the festival also welcomed Rubaru Mr India Lummi Awungshi, who serves as the Brand Ambassador for the festival.
