Imphal, December 16 2023:
The special general body meeting scheduled to be held at the office of the Manipur Olympic Association is "sub-judice", claimed Manipur Judo Association president Bijoy Koijam asking members to stay away from it.
At his residence at Imphal, Bijoy Koijam alleged that the term of the executive members of the Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) had expired.
He accused the executive members of irregularities.
Bijoy claimed the last election for executive council of the MOA was held in July 2018 for a term of four years and their terms expired in August 2022 .
After 2018, the election has not been held for electing executive council members.
They have used COVID-19 pandemic and the present crisis as excuses for not holding the election, Bijoy said.
Subsequently, one Soibam Indrakumar filed a complaint with the High Court of Manipur.
The High Court gave its order on September 14 directing the Registrar of Societies, Manipur to hold the election within a period of two months, he said.
The Registrar of Societies then issued an order on October 30 directing the MOA executive council to conduct elections following the bye-laws by November 30, he added.
Now, instead of holding the election, the executive council whose terms have expired have called a special general body meeting tomorrow at 10 am.
The meeting has been called to amend the Constitution of the MOA which is sub-judice, Bijoy alleged.
Bijoy said "The time frame of two months given by the High Court has expired.
The general body meeting should be to hold elections.
The 'ex-executive council' can't call such a special general body meeting to amend the Constitution" .
He further alleged that the "ex-executive council" is unable to produce the account statements pertaining to about Rs 2.80 crore sanctioned in connection with Olympic Games and National Games.
There has also been a complaint about supplying substandard sports materials to players, he claimed.
Bijoy said he may approach the State Vigilance Commission for investigation.
