Many mourn demise of Oken Amakcham

Imphal, July 20 2026: The Manipuri film community paid glowing tributes to National Awardee Oken Amakcham, who passed away suddenly on Sunday morning after a brief illness.

Today, the All Manipur Film Makers' & Producers' Association organised a condolence meeting at its office in Konung Mamang Wangkhei Road.

Members observed a 2-minute silence and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

AMFIMPA recalled honoring Oken Amakcham with the "Arangba Thawan-Michak" Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 .

Kangla Films, Manipur also held a condolence meeting at Kangla Mini Film City, Kongba Lairenpat.

As Advisory Board Member and Founder Film Director of Kangla Films, Oken Amakcham was remembered with a 1-minute silence.

Members expressed grief over the huge void his demise has left in Manipuri cinema.

Juvenile Theatre, Kongba Kshetri Leikai, where Oken played a major role, also paid tributes.

Working president K Rajendra Singh said as lifetime president, Oken guided many artists and directed numerous stage plays.

Members observed a 2-minute silence and shared the grief of the bereaved family.

Moreover, the Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has also expressed deep sorrow and condolence over the demise of Oken Akamchan.
