With the harvest of the Peas cultivated by the Sanakeithei Farmers Unit of Society for People's Advancement Manipur (SPAM) in over 15 hectares of land in Ukhrul, SPAM has started selling off Peas to the public in connection with the festival of Meetei Cheiraoba.
In relation to the sale inauguration of Peas at the Hall of Lainingthou Eeshing Chaibi, Nagamapal today, Vice President of SPAM, Kh Amarjit said that SPAM and the farmers of Sanakeithei were able to cultivate and produce Peas under the supervision of IPM technology and the sponsorship of the Deputy Director of Agriculture, Ph Rajendro.
The cultivation of Peas from the 15 hectares of Sanakeithei at Ukhrul is estimated to produce 12000 Kilograms and by selling it at Rs 35 per Kilogram, the Farmers are estimated to gain Rs 4, 20,000 approximately.
Amarjit also said that SPAM is also cultivating the Arken and Arpana varieties of Peas over total areas of 95 hectares at different places of the state including Nongren, Sabungkhok, Sanakeithei, Chingnungkok, Mani Yaishkul, Chingkhu and Kakching Khunou in association with the farmers under the sponsorship of the state agriculture department.
Arken variety seed was presented by the state Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department while Arpana seed was distributed by the state government to the farmers.
Approximate 76,000 kilograms of peas is estimated to be harvested from the 95 hectares of the cultivated land which will enable the farmers to gain Rs 26,60,000 from its sale.
689 Kilograms of Peas was able sell today and he also said that sale of Peas will continue on March 23 and 26.
