Police breaks down door, family condemns

Imphal, February 12 2019:
In the name of chasing down protesters who took part in the agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, a team of police allegedly kicked down and damaged the doors of a household at Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai today.
Strongly condemning the act of the police, a family member of the household claimed that today, there were no violent protests or any such demonstration in the area although only a few youths could be seen standing on the road.
The individual claimed that there was constant traffic of police vehicle on the road and suddenly, one police commando vehicle came up to their house.
Seeing the approaching vehicle, some of the youths ran into their house and shut the doors.
He claimed that the police commando demanded him to bring out all those who ran into the house and began kicking the door.
They did not stop even when requested not to do so and as such, they eventually kicked down the door damaging it.
The individual further alleged that the police threatened that the house would be destroyed if those who ran into the house were not produced.
He further claimed that the police personnel went inside and brought out the youths and also thrashed some of the furniture at the house.
On the other hand, the general secretary of Imphal West Student Club Khumbong, Atom Somorendro was allegedly kicked on his chest by police personnel while he was standing near Khumbong Keithel today.
Imphal West Student Club and Meira Paibis of the area have strongly condemned the incident claiming that the Somorendro was not part of any protest when the incident happened.
They also demanded appropriate punishments for the police personnel involved in the incident.
