Imphal, February 12 2019:
The 26th foundation day of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) was held at the association's office at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai today.
AMUCO president Ph Deban Sharma, AMUCO secretary general S Sanjoy and vice president Ph Nando attended the event as the presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Ph Deban said that the foundation day of AMUCO has been organised in a small manner looking after the current situation prevailing in the State due to the issue of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.The event has been organised just for namesake as there is a huge uproar in the State and a curfew has also been imposed by the authority to control the situation, he added.
He continued that ever since Manipur merged into India on October 15, 1949, the Central Government has been resorting to various divide and rule policy to create tension and enmity among the people.
He then assured that AMUCO will stay firm against any such attempt to harm the integrity and unity of the people.
On the other hand, Deban explained that the unchecked influx of non Manipuris in the State has led to the indigenous people becoming a minority in their own land slowly but surely.
However, the attempt to pass the CAB in the Rajya Sabha at such a critical junction, is totally unacceptable, he added.
He then alleged that even if India claims itself to be a democracy, the attitude shown towards Manipur and the North East is draconian dictatorship and the people of the region do not view this attitude as a taste of democracy.
