Cops hurt in stone pelting, shots fired towards CRPF

Imphal, June 09 2025:
Two personnel of Manipur police including an officer were injured as supporters of the ongoing shutdown called against the arrest of Arambai Tenggol members pelted stones while unknown persons fired some rounds towards security forces at two locations on Monday.
The first incident occurred at Nambol bazar in Bishnupur district where a police team led by additional SP was blocked by protestors.
As talk between the protestorsand police team to clear the road yielded no result, an intense showdown ensued between the two sides with some among the protestors pelting stones towards the police team with the latter firing several rounds of tear gas shells.
In the ensuing melee, additional SP and one policeman were hit by stones pelted by protestors.
Nambol PS has registered a case regarding the incident.
The second incident occurred in Tera Sapam Leikai area along the NH-37 road where supporters of the ongoing shutdown blocked road.
However, CRPF personnel deployed nearby cleared the road as security advisor Kuldiep Singh was scheduled to pass through the area.
At about 2.30pm Monday when road clearance was about to complete, protestors pelted stones towards the CRPF and used slingshots.
As CRPF personnel fired tear gas shells to disperse the protestors, unidentified person(s) fired 5/6 rounds towards the security team.
Later, security forces tried to conduct search operation in the area to nab the person who fired the shots but locals opposed the move.
Tension in the area subsided after the locals assured to hand over the gunman to security forces but there has been no report of handing over the said person till the time of filing this report.
Security forces deployed in the area have been alerted to prevent such incidents.
