Thoubal, April 09 2026:
A massive protest rally was carried out in Thoubal on Thursday condemning the recent bomb attack at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district that claimed the lives of two children and injuring their mother, along with the subsequent firing by the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) personnel that allegedly killed three civilians.
The rally, which began from Thoubal Babu Bazar and proceeded towards Thoubal College Lamkhai, was organised by the Meitei Community Joint Coordinating Committee (MCJCC) Waithou, Kiyam, Kiyam Siphai, Haokha and Thoubal Khunou.

Protesters raised slogans demanding strict punishment for those involved in the attack, action to uproot Kuki militant elements, resignation of the Chief Minister and Home Minister, and withdrawal of Central forces from the State.
As the rally moved towards the Deputy Commissioner' Office, police personnel intercepted the protesters at Thoubal Haokha, leading to a brief scuffle.
The protesters, however, pushed back the barricade and continued their march.
Upon reaching Thoubal College Lamkhai, security personnel again stopped the rally, resulting in another minor clash, after which the demonstrators returned back towards Babu Bazar.
Speaking in connection with the protest, MCJCC finance secretary, Khumanthem Inaocha strongly condemned the bomb attack, describing it as a brutal act in which two innocent children were killed while asleep and their mother grievously injured.
He further alleged that during the public outcry over the incident, central forces opened fire on civilians, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to several others, which he said had intensified public anger across Manipur.
Inaocha also criticised the State police for preventing the peaceful rally from reaching its intended destination, stating that such actions have eroded public trust in both State and Central forces.
He also demanded immediate arrest and punishment of those responsible for the attack as well as accountability for the alleged firing on civilians.
Failing this, he said, the Chief Minister of Manipur should resign.
