AMWJU, EGM condemn assault on scribes

Imphal, June 08 2025: A joint meeting of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) has strongly condemned the brutal assault on two reporters of Impact TV News by CRPF personnel when the former duo was covering the public protest at Kwakeithel around 10 pm Saturday.

According a joint release by AMWJU and EGM, the assault took place even as the journalists identified themselves as media persons.

The CRPF personnel also used foul language against the media persons.

The meeting also resolved to file an FIR in connection with the incident and demand that strong action be taken against the perpetrators to deter such impunities which have been recurring against media in recent past.

As part of the protest, the EGM and AMWJU have decided to keep all editorials of the June 8, 2025 publication blank and carry a common slogan 'AMWJU & EGM Condemn repeated assault and intimidation of Journalists'.

The organisations also urged the relevant authority to take action so as to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
