Imphal, July 31 2019: Locals of Saitu AC and Saikul AC repaired Motbung Hengjing valley bridge, which is one of the crucial passage for both the constituencies but has been lying unusable for a long time.

Speaking to media persons today, Motbung Village Authority chairman SL Lunthang said that Motbung Hengjing valley bridge was not fit for passage after it got destroyed in the 2016 flood.

Following the unfortunate incident, the locals of both the constituencies have been facing numerous inconveniences while going to other places.

He went on to state that the matter was brought up to the State Government repeatedly but the locals did not receive any sort of response from the Government.

Meanwhile, Works Minister Th Biswajit visited the said site to inspect the bridge and even assured to take prompt measures.

But the promise made to the locals have not been fulfilled yet.

Motbung VA advisor Haopu Lhouvum said that, as the locals saw no other option and felt helpless, they decided to contribute money to built a makeshift bridge and the bridge is functional for now.

However, as the repairing work was not taken up on a professional level, the locals fear that they will overcome mishaps/accidents while passing the bridge, especially during rainy season.

He urged the State Government and the authorities concerned to look into the matter and build a proper bridge so that the the people of Saitu and Saikul ACs can pass the bridge with no fear.
