Imphal, December 14 2009:
As the year is wrapping up, the Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) has accused the state government of fooling the people once again as the elections to the Autonomous District Councils (ADC) could not be conducted this year.
The Front while saying this, has affirmed not to shy away from its responsibility if the people want an alternative.
"We will not be surprise if all the hill districts attempt to find an alternative since the state government refuses to conduct the ADC polls for the last 20 years in Manipur hills," stated Ngachonmi Chamroy.
Driving home its point, the IDF said that for the last 20 years or so the successive governments in Manipur have been assuring to conduct the ADC polls in the hill districts of Manipur but two decades have elapsed while giving repteated assurances.
"We can no longer be a fool-pad where anyone just come, fooled us and go," fumed the IDF supremo.
Ngachonmi Chamroy pointed out that last year the state government had announced to conduct the ADC polls beginning from April 18, 2009 but then it failed to keep its words.
"Even after announcing the dates for polls, the state government can swallow its notification, there no is no guarantee that the ADC elections will be conducted even next year," said the IDF adding, " We just want the decentralisation of powers by bringing the grass-root level democracy".
It also cited that Municipal elections, Gram Panchayats and other polls have been held in the valley but the state government ignores the hil peoples' aspiration.
The IDF termed it as indifferent attitude of the state government towards the hill people.
The IDF then threatened to take up stern democratic forms of agitation soon.
