Seized food items worth Rs 45 lakh burnt

A large quantity of contraband food items worth around Rs 45 lakh were consigned to flames by the Food Safety and Standards Enforcement Wing here on Wednesday.
Tin fish (Sea Cherry), Mackerals Sowkar (in brine) manufactured by Sowkar Canning Company, Karnataka, Mikko Nutritious Cereal (High Calcium), snacks, bakery items, milk and milk products, achar items Pickles, Gurkha Kheini, Zarda, Pan Masala, chewable and smokeless tobacco products which contained nicotine were burnt and disposed of at the Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Site, Lamphelpat.
All these contraband food items were seized during the mass drive carried out by the Food Safety Officer Team of Food Safety and Standards Enforcement Wing from August 16-24 this year, S Bimolakumari, Designated Officer (Food Safety), told reporters at the site where the illegal food items were destroyed.
