Discussion on "Role of women in today's society" held

Imphal, January 24 2025: A public meeting/discussion on the topic "Houjikki khunaida nupisinggi thoudang" (Role of women in today's society) was held today at Naharup Makhapat under Kshetrigao AC organised by Apunba Nupi Lup Kshetrigao Kendra.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Ch Sheelaramani, former Principal of Dhanamanjuri College of Arts, termed it unfortunate that when women make mistakes, they are reprimanded in a way that seeks to humiliate them further.

Stating that admonition for wrongdoings are justified, she pointed opt that it is a rule that women should be interrogated only by other women.

In violation of such rules, men interrogating women with the use of excessive/vul-gar language is unacceptable and unfortunate, she said.

When the police interrogate a woman, only female police personnel can carry out the interrogation, not the men, she added.

Even though womenfolk have contributed in a major way to society, at the time of decision making, the men are always at the helm.

As a result, it is difficult to make decisions on issues that center around women, she maintained.

Stating that it is everyone's obligation to improve the economy of the State, Dr Ch Sheelaramani appealled to all to refrain from engaging in acts that will prove to be detrimental to society just to earn a livelihood.

The meeting was also attended by M Damayanti, president, Apunba Nupi Lup Kshetrigao Kendra; Th Ibecha, vice president and H Premila, president, Leitambi Meira Paibi Lup among others.
