76th Manipur Kanba Numit observed

Irabot Celebration Committee Manipur and Lamlai Local Council, Communist Party of India jointly observed the 76th Manipur Kanba Numit at Irabot Memorial Hall in Irabot Park, Lamlai on Saturday.
In a release, Communist Party of India/Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) informed that Manipur Kanba Numit is observed every year to commemorate the September 21, 1948 incident, which is popularly known as 'Pungdongbam Incident'.
The observation kicked off with CPI state secretary Leishangthem Thoiren taking the ceremonial torch from Pungdongbam Memorial Site.
The torch was brought to the Irabot Memorial Park by the volunteers of CPI's Peoples Service Corp (PSC) who also paid floral tributes before the main function commenced at Irabot Memorial Hall.
People then paid floral tributes to the photos of Irabot, his fellow comrades and the brave souls who made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland in the present conflict.
The main function was attended by Dr M Nara, president Irabot Celebration Committee; L Thoiren, secretary CPI/MSC; eminent writer Chana Lukhoi; former party state secretary, L Sotinkumar; CPI assistant secretary, M Jaykumar and N Singhajit as presidium members.
Representatives of Manipur Loumee Lup, All Manipur Nupi Marup and All India Youth Federation also took part in the programme.
At the event, L Thoiren recalled the movement launched by Irabot in 1948 against the inclusion of Manipur in the proposed Purvanchal Pradesh.
L Sotinkumar and Dr M Nara also spoke on the occasion.
Moreover, Manipur Loumee Marup also celebrated the 76th Manipur Kanba Numit at CPI(M) office in Paona Keithel today.
It was graced by Manipur Loumee Marup leader Ningthoujam Nabakumar as the chief guest, said a release.
At the event, CPI(M) Manipur state secretary, Ksh Shanta lauded the spirit of Irabot and his comrades who struggled and stopped the inclusion of Manipur in the proposed Purvanchal Pradesh.
Manipur Loumee Marup secretary Sarat Salam also spoke on the significance of such a historically important event.
