Thokchom Bira remembered

Irawat Celebration Committee (ICC) Manipur celebrated the 99th birth anniversary of Biplabi Comrade Thokchom Bira Singh at Irawat Bhawan, Imphal today.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including L Iboyaima, former chairman, Control Commission, Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI); Dr M Nara, former Minister, Government of Manipur; A Nabachandra, secretary, MSC/CPI; L Sotinkumar, former state secretary, MSC/CPI; L Thoiren, former state secretary, MSC/CPI; Th Bhanumati, former Councillor, Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC); and Ksh Shanti state secretary, CPI(M) .
The celebration began with the offering of floral tributes to a photograph of the Late Thokchom Bira Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, L Iboyaima lauded Biplabi Comrade Thokchom Bira as a true communist leader who led the democratic movement in Manipur and believed in the ideals of humanism and justice.
He asserted that comrade Bira was a leader who always thought for the welfare of the society and worked tirelessly for the betterment of women and the downtrodden people.
Referring to the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, L Iboyaima said, "The people had high hopes that the PM would be announcing a road-map to bring peace and normalcy in the State.
However, he left after inaugurating and launching projects worth crores separately in Churachandpur and Imphal, without even mentioning a word of the conflict".
Stating that the PM's silence on the conflict was a cruel insult to the suffering people of Manipur, L Iboyaima said, "The BJP Government can no longer be trusted.
It is time for the people of Manipur to wake up and face realities" .
