Independent enquiry has reached certain breakthrough: Zeliangrong Civil Organizations

Imphal, September 14 2018: The Zeliangrong Civil Organisations have claimed that an independent enquiry conducted by the Zeliangrong Civil Organizations in the detention of two individuals, namely Gangongdai Gangmei s/o Ramsingpou Gangmei and Khiuthangam Gangmei s/o Lungangaipou Gangmei of Rengpang village by the NSCN (IM) since September 6 for alleged involvement in the assault on AMSU volunteers and extortion on September 3 at Nungba bazar has reached certain breakthroughs.

A press release issued by the media and publicity cell of the Zeliangrong Civil Organisations today mentioned that as per the findings, the incident which occurred at Nungba bazar, where NSCN (IM) cadres reportedly slapped the secretary general of AMSU, harassed the student leader and the artistes using foul words which could incite communal tension, and the NSCN (IM) claim that two individuals involved in the incident were arrested and detained in custody, are not related in any manner with one another.

However, the ZCOs findings have established beyond doubt that the assault on AMSU leaders was committed by the NSCN (IM) cadres for which the Cease Fire Monitoring Cell (CFMC) Tamenglong have already admitted that the Naga Army Finance Dept (NAFD), it claimed.

It claimed that the two individuals who are now detained by the NSCN (IM) in their custody were drunk individuals who were heading for their respective homes at Rengpang village (which is 7 km away from Nungba bazar) from Nungba bazar on September 4 .

It claimed that as per the findings, a truck coming towards Nungba bazar (somewhere around 4 pm) splashed some muddy roadside water on them and as such the two individuals shouted at the driver of the truck to stop.

The truck stopped and the two individuals, out of anger, pretended to be underground cadres under the influence of alcohol.

They asked the driver to give some money as compensation for making their clothes dirty and the driver gave them some money after which the truck was allowed to proceed towards Nungba bazar.

When the truck reached Nungba bazar, some suspected cadres of the NSCN (IM) asked the driver to give tax and the driver explained and informed them that the necessary tax had already been collected on the way just ahead of reaching Nungba bazar.

This prompted the suspected NSCN (IM) cadres to investigate the matter and two individuals were eventually identified.

However, after giving stern warnings, the two individuals were set free on the same day, ZCO claimed.

It continued that when AMSU started publicising the matter in the media, the NSCN (IM) instructed the family members of the two persons (who were already set free) to bring them up to Tamenglong HQ and as such Gangongdai Gangmei, accompanied by his mother, went to Tamenglong.

There, Gangongdai Gangmei made a phone call to his friend Khiuthangam Gangmei (who was in Imphal) to come to Tamenglong so as to clear the confusion regarding the matter.

Thereafter, Khiuthangam Gangmei, hiring a diesel auto, came to Tamenglong HQ but as soon as he reached Tamenglong HQ, the NSCN (IM) cadres took both of them into custody and the next day, a statement was issued in various newspapers that the two individuals who were involved in the incident were arrested and being interrogated, it claimed.

The Nungba bazar incident and the two individuals are not related or connected in any way as the two incidents happened on different time periods, dates, place and as well as the vehicles were different.

Therefore, the allegation levelled against the two individuals should be dropped immediately and they should be released, ZCO demanded.

It also added that any confession whatever made by the two detained individuals before the NSCN (IM) cannot be construed as true and final since the confession might have been made in the face of extreme threat and intimidation.

It continued that NSCN (IM) should not heap unrelated and baseless charges on the two individuals just to save their image.

It also urged the Central and State Govts to refrain from remaining silent spectators when civilians are being detained by NSCN (IM) .
