Imphal, April 13 2025: The prolonging of President's Rule (PR) in the state instead of forming a popular government of elected representatives is rendering democracy meaningless.

The PR imposed in the state is not only blind but powerless, said Shiv Sena Manipur president M Tombi.

Addressing the media at party's Babupara office on Saturday, Tombi said that the restriction on forming a government elected by the people in the world's biggest democracy with a federal structure, is simply violation of the democratic rights of the people, he opined, adding that the centre is disrupting harmony in the state.

Tombi continued that while it was initially believed that the PR was imposed to address the strain in the relationship between two communities, no effective action has been witnessed or carried out in the past two months to resolve the unrest situation.

Reflecting on appeals made by the union home minister and the Governor to the warring communities to surrender all weapons, he pointed out that some section of the Meetei population handed over illegal firearms to the police authorities, where armed Kukis and Kuki CSOs continue to defy the call.

Moreover, the union home minister has failed to translate into action announcement made to restore free movement along the highways till date, Tombi noted.

Questioning if the PR is only for the valley, he urged the centre to stop such divisive appeasement politics or it will be drastically radicalise the youth.

He further urged the security forces to stop colluding with Myanmar-based proxy militia to destroy Manipur.

The centre is well aware of the demographic imbalance, establishment of new villages and influx of narco-terrorists from Myanmar into Manipur.

The illegal immigrants have forcefully settled in lands of the indigenes, threatening the very existence of the native population.

As such, it would be wrong to remain silent on the matter, he said.
