Imphal, January 11 2019:
The 'failure' of the Cabinet meeting held yesterday to take any strong decision against the Citizenship Bill passed in the Lok Sabha has shown that the BJP led Government is supportive' of the Bill, alleged Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) today.
Speaking to media persons at its office in Keishampat Laishom Leirak, its president S Yaima alleged that the Cabinet meeting failed to openly criticise the Bill.
"When the whole of the State along with other North-East States have been agitating against the Bill passed in the Lok Sabha, the Cabinet meeting yesterday failed to take decisive and open stand against the Bill.
Chairs (posts) are not as important as integrity of the State.
The Cabinet meeting should have taken a stronger resolution which reflects the people's mandate," he said.
Claiming that the Cabinet decision is against the interest of the people, SSUM demanded an emergency sitting of the Assembly on the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 at the earliest.
SSUM further demanded that BJP MP Kshetrimayum Bhabananda should declare his stand on the Bill within five days.
SSUM with people will start intense agitations if emergency sitting of the State Assembly is not called and MP Ksh Bhabananda does not declare his stand on the Bill within five days, SSUM president said.
