Imphal, June 07 2025:
The President's Rule being imposed in the State would be completing six months on August 13, 2025.As such, BJP MLAs have stepped up their efforts to form a popular Government by August 12, 2025 .
As many as 25 BJP MLAs held a meeting on May 30 at the official residence of MLA Th Biswajit at Sanjenthong and the MLAs agreed to convey their common desire to form a popular Government to the Central leaders.
Two more BJP MLAs namely; Th Basantakumar of Nambol AC and Md Ashab Uddin of Jiribam AC have also backed the same understanding reached at the May 30 meeting.
The decision adopted at MLA Biswajit's official residence was endorsed at another meeting held at BJP Manipur Pradesh office on the next day with its president A Sharda in the chair.
Now, the 27 BJP MLAs have been communicating and discussing with BJP National leaders on the formation of a popular Government in Manipur.
As prohibited by protocol, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata is staying away from the MLAs' efforts to form a popular Government.
Ex-Chief Minister N Biren has been staying away from almost all the meetings held among BJP MLAs on the formation of a popular Government while MLA RK Imo of Sagolband AC has not made any comment or commitment on the consensus reached among the fellow BJP MLAs.
The BJP MLAs who have agreed to exert pressure on the Centre to end the President's Rule and install a popular Government in Manipur are L Susindro (Khurai), Th Biswajit (Thongju), L Rameshwor (Keirao), Th Shyamkumar (Andro), Kh Ibomcha (Lamlai), Kh Joykisan (Thangmeiband), Kh Raghumani (Uripok), Y Khemchand (Singjamei), Th Arunkumar (Wangkhei), H Dingo (Sekmai), S Rajen (Lamsang), Dr S Ranjan (Konthoujam), S Kunjakeshor (Patsoi), Karam Shyam (Langthabal), S Kebi (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa), K Robindro (Mayang Imphal), K Govindas (Bishnupur), T Robindro (Thanga), S Premchandra (Kumbi), Th Radheshyam (Heirok), Paonam Brojen (Wangjing-Tentha), Dr U Deben (Wabagai), Dr Y Radheshyam (Hiyanglam), SS Olish (Chandel), Dinganglung Gangmei (Nungba), Th Basantakumar (Nambol) and Md Ashab Uddin (Jiribam).
Some BJP MLAs told The Sangai Express that Manipur was brought under President's Rule on February 13, 2025 and the President's Rule can be imposed for three years by adopting a statutory resolution at the Parliament every six months.
The President's Rule imposed in the State would complete six months on August 13.In case a popular Government is not installed by August 12, the Parliament may adopt a resolution to extend the President's Rule for another six months, the MLAs said.
Generally, popular Governments were installed within the first six months of animated suspension (President's Rule) in most States of India in the past.
"As such, we are confident that the Centre would allow formation of a popular Government by August 12", they said.
Altogether 32 BJP MLAs including five from Kuki community were elected in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
The number of BJP MLAs rose to 37 after five MLAs elected on JD-U tickets including two belonging to the Kuki community joined the party.
Even if the seven BJP MLAs belonging to the Kuki community cannot come to Imphal at the moment, the party still has 30 MLAs.
"Most of the BJP MLAs have a common desire to form a popular Government in place of the existing President's Rule and we believe the Centre will soon install a popular Government in the State", they said.
The BJP MLAs said that a popular Government would be formed in the State once BJP Central leaders give a green signal.
If a popular Government is not formed before August 13, 2025, people will lose all their faith in the incumbent BJP MLAs and it would prove to be a serious setback to the party in the next State Assembly election which is due in early 2027 .
Considering their future political careers, some of the BJP MLAs have even started mulling establishment of a new political party to form a popular Government in case BJP Central leaders do not agree to formation of a popular Government at the earliest, sources said.
