Imphal, April 29 2025:
The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has urged authorities to allow students to pursue studies in Manipuri, their mother tongue, by making textbooks and study materials available in Manipuri.
Speaking to the media at Kwakeithel today, MSF president Hijam Roshan said that Manipuri, despite being a rich language, no authorities including the Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation (DLPI) have taken any concrete measure to promote it.
He also said that there is a scarcity of books in Manipuri - text books, reference books, study materials etc, with the exception of those published by some dedicated teachers who are working to promote the language.
He warned that the true identity of Manipur will be lost if Manipuri language disappears.
Terming the alleged neglect of Manipuri language as unfortunate, he emphasized the need for a collective effort to promote and preserve it.
Roshan then urged the authorities to enable students of schools, colleges and universities under BOSEM, COHSEM, and Manipur University to study in their mother tongue, Manipuri, by making textbooks and study materials available adequately in the language.
