Heikham Dingo launches radio awareness drama

Imphal, January 24 2025:
Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh on Friday launched a radio awareness drama titled, "Hamare Buzurg, Hamara Abhiman (Our Elders, Our Pride)" at the auditorium of Radio Nongin 90.8 MHz FM in Gambhir Singh Shopping Complex, Imphal.
The 24-episode drama series is aimed at educating senior citizens about Government programmes designed to benefit them.
It is part of the "Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY)" launched by the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry, Government of India and the Community Radio Association (CRA) has been propagating the same through the community radio stations across the country.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Heikham Dingo said that the AVYAY is a comprehensive initiative aimed at ensuring a dignified life for senior citizens in India.
He continued that the scheme's main objective is to improve the quality of life of senior citizens by extending them basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and entertainment opportunities.
The Minister asserted that the radio programme will play a significant role in spreading awareness about the various schemes initiated by the Government for the welfare of senior citizens.
Radio Nongin advisor RK Nongdrenkhomba Meitei and CPI(M) Manipur state secretary Khetrimayum Shanta also attended the event as presidium members.
