Imphal, May 20 2009:
The Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS), known previously as the JN Hospital located at Porompat will be the first Health institute in the entire North East to install Modular OT.
In an exclusive tte--tte with Hueiyen Lanpao, the state Health Minister, Pheiroijam Parijat said that stage has been set to open the Modular Operation Theatre at JNIMS - targeted completion by August this year - and to make it the first health institute to be provided with such facility among the north eastern states.
The Health Minister informed that work has been carried out on war footing to ensure the completion of the construction of the institute by August this year.
He adds the institute will be made functional in September along with admission of students.
"The most remarkable feat will be the opening of a separate room for Modular OT to enable contagion-free operation, the first of its kind in the North East," Ph Parijat told elatedly.
He further said that the Modular OT will be constructed by a private company.
He said the construction of the staff quarters has also been completed while also asserting that all the requisite infrastructures prescribed by the team from Medical Council of India (MCI), who recently visited the institute, have been acquired without any lack.
Parijat said that another team of MCI was expected on May 18 last, but due to some inconveniences the team could not come.
However, the MCI inspection team is likely to have a visit at least by June, he observed.
On the sudden eviction of some pharmacies and shops around JN Hospital under security cover this morning, the Health Minister said that it might have been done under the supervision of the Works Department as the department is entrusted with some share of works.
He rules the possibility of some disordered/dislocated shops and pharmacies were evicted to put the place in order while also assuring that the dislocated shops and pharmacies will be provided equitable places after the completion of the construction works of JNIMS.
Meanwhile, protesting the demolition of their stores without any prior information, shop, hotel and pharmacy owners around the hospital whose stores have been demolished staged a sit in today in front of the Gate Number 1 of JN Hospital, Porompat.
Protestors have lodged complaint that most of the shops have been run on loan.
They voice that the sudden pulling down of shops signifies the Manipur government intention to let the shop owners die.
At the same time, Ph Parijat also appeals all concerned not to cause any disturbance in the construction and progress of the JNIMS.
