Tamenglong, June 14 2024:
Assam Rifles constructed and inaugurated a water reservoir cum embankment in Tamei village of Tamenglong district.
The Assam Rifles in a statement said that the Assam Rifles undertook the initiative of constructing the reservoir acknowledging the scarcity of water sources in the area since optimal use of ground and surface water through rain water harvesting method is crucial to maintain water sustainability.
The embankment has been constructed on a seasonal brook in the vicinity of the village.
The embankment which would also act as a reservoir has the capacity to store 10000 litres of water.
During torrential rains, the stream's water would continue flowing down and the embankment would not be an impediment to its natural flow.
The project has a great potential to overcome the frequent water shortage issue faced by the villagers in Tamei and will assist in judicious water conservation techniques for a more sustainable future.
The accumulated water will be employed in the manner as preferred by the locals.
