Seed mela / farmers' training programme held at Kumbi Terakhong

Deputy Director of Research/Nodal officer, ICAR Seed Project, Central Agriculture University, Imphal Th Robindro Singh has said, '' Farmers of the State belong to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes will be given fifty percent subsidy on rice seeds from Central Agriculture University under seed village program" .
Th Robindro was speaking at the on one day seed mela cum farmers' training programme at Kumbi Terakhong, Bishnupur district.
The event was organized by Terakhong Progressive Farmers' Club, Kumbi.
More than hundred farmers attended the training session and exhibited their farm produces/crops.
360 kgs of mustard seeds were distributed to the farmers at the event.
The seed mela cum farmers' training programme was organised to teach the farmers about the various schemes and techniques which will enhance seed preservation, he said and urged the farmers to preserve quality seeds for next season's crop plantation.
Most farmers depends on hybrid crop seed since it is easily available in the market however there are some traditional crops which cannot be replaced by hybrid seeds, he said.
The department had organized a farmers' trip to Sikkim to exposed them to various methods and techniques of farming in other State, he said stating the importance of innovative tools and machineries for successful farming.
ICAR, Agriculture Department, KVK is for farmers and their growth and people should avail all the helps possible from these institutions, he said.
He also highlighted the various effects of using hybrid crops, fertilisers and pesticides.
He encouraged farmers to adopt organic fanning to maintain soil health and healthy produces.
Registrar of Central Agriculture University K Mamocha and Pradhan of Wangu Terakhong Gram Panchayat P Baleshwor attended the event as dignitaries.
