MNYO organises discourse on village authority, Manipur tribals

A one-day discourse programme on the 'Powers and Functions of Village Authority and the Exigencies and the Challenges of Manipur Tribals' was held today at Makhan Village Community Hall in Kangpokpi district.
The programme was organised by the Manipur Naga Youth Organisation, Headquarters (MNYO-HQ) under the sponsorship of Manipur State Commission for the Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) .
More than one hundred members from eight different villages of the area including Chiefs and Chairmen ofVillage Authorities, Village Authority members.
Church leaders, youths, students and women society, the Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone, the Naga People Organisation Kangpokpi and other social organisations took part in today's programme, said a press release by the Publicity & Media Cell, MNYO.
The programme began by an opening prayer invoked by Rev Wizunang Marenmai.
Pastor Makhan Baptist Church followed by a keynote address and welcome speech delivered by Athot Keitang, President of Manipur Naga Youth Organisation, Headquarters (MNYO-HQ).
As the resource persons of the programme Daniel Ramsan, Senior Advocate and Chairman IT-Manipur State Commission for the Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) spoke on the topic,'The powers and the functions of Village authority and relevant issues and problems related to the Village Authority Act of 1956' while Wungshim Angkang, retired Associate Professor spoke on the 'Exigencies and the challenges of Manipur Tribals' and deliberated on the threats, the weaknesses, strengths and the opportunities of the younger generations of the tribal people particularly young Nagas of Manipur, said the press note.
