Imphal, July 21 2015 :
State unit of JD (U) on Tuesday demanded that the Manipur Government make sincere effort to pass an appropriate legislation to protect the indigenous people soon.
Addressing media at the party office, Janata Dal (United) Manipur unit president Tombi warned that public movement demanding Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) could take a turn for the worse if the Government continues to ignore it.
He criticised the Congress Government headed by Chief Minister O Ibobi for throwing out the key five points submitted by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) for incorporating them in the controversial Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill 2015 which had been finally withdrawn following intense public pressure on July 15 .
Tombi condemned the Government for naming Sapam Robinhood as an accused in an FIR filed by police following his death in Government crackdown against ILP supporters on July 8 .
The JD (U) leader stated that Robinhood who was a Class XI student was a bona fide citizen and that he was just a protester and not a criminal.
He made a strong appeal to the Government to come forward and bring about a settlement with the Sapam Robinhood Joint Action Committee (JAC) at the earliest.
The Government should insert the five points of JCILPS in the proposed ILP bill, Tombi demanded and cautioned that negligence on the part of the Government would aggravate the situation.
