Gaikhangam expresses displeasure over absence of officials

Expressing resentment over absence of several high ranking officials during the 43rd Statehood Day observance function organized by Government of Manipur at the Banquet Hall of 1st Manipur Rifles on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home, has categorically stated that the time has come to take a firm decision to instruct officials to attend State functions without fail.
Addressing the gathering as functional president, Gaikhangam stated that presence of high ranking officials in observance functions like Statehood Day is important as their presence would set a good example to fellow colleagues and the public.
He made it clear that the government would not hesitate to take action against those officials who fail to attend State functions in future.

Chief Minister O Ibobi, who was the chief guest of the function, asserted that the State has witnessed tremendous growth and development in a short period of time under the Congress-led government.
Many developmental plans have been taken up by the government and more are on the pipeline, the CM said, adding that efforts are on to set up bank in blocks where there is no bank at present within March this year.
Three Khwairamband Markets have been handed over to women vendors.
Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS); National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur and Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) have been also set up in the State.
Moreover, Khuga Multipurpose Project has been inaugurated.
These are the hallmarks of good governance, he maintained.
Exuding confidence that a slew of developmental projects being taken up by the government would enhance the economy of the State, the CM appealed to the people to extend cooperation to the government.
He recalled that Manipur became a full-fledged State on January 21, 1972 and since then the day is being observed as Statehood Day every year.
While acknowledging that the State is well known for its rich art & culture and excellence in sports, CM Ibobi admitted that there are certain sectors which the government needs to put in more efforts.
PHED Minister I Hemochandra; IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip; Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Education Minister M Okendro; Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai; MLA P Brojen and several others civil and police officials were also present on the occasion.
The Statehood Day was also observed by Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council at Irabat Bhavan with Dr M Nara, secretary of CPI, Manipur State Council; B Sharma, former secretary of the party; L Irabot, former secretary and N Mangi, secretary member of the party attending as presidium members.
