Imphal, January 21 2015:
Flaying the State Government for not expanding the stretch from Lilong to Waithou on Imphal-Moreh road, the Lilong Unified Political Link has on Wednesday announced an indefinite bandh along the section of National Highway-2 beginning 6 am from January 23 .
The organisation's advisor MA Zabbar announced the proposed strike at a press meet.
He said the State Government has forgotten to expand the road stretch from Lilong bridge to Waithou in Thoubal district.
He said the 4 km-long stretch of the highway needs immediate widening as frequent traffic accidents are occurring on this section.
"The Government has already completed expansion of the Imphal-Moreh highway stretch, but the Lilong-Waithou section has been ignored," Zabbar said.
Zabbar said road mishaps along the highway section claim lives every year.
The strike could disrupt normal Indo-Myanmar trade activities and hundreds of small traders.
Incidentally, a Imphal-Moreh highway is a section of the Asian Highway I which would ultimately connect Imphal with Myanmar's Mandalay city.
A joint survey to this effect was conducted by the two countries a few days back.
