Chief Minsiter, O Ibobi today inaugurated a water treatment plant, constructed by the PHE Department capable of producing 6.81 million litres of water, for augmentation of water supply for Imphal city phase-I by utilising Leishangkhong Moat and Subsequent pumping of water from the confluence of point of the Imphal and Iril Rivers at
Canchipur.
The water treatment plant inaugurated at MU Complex, Canchipur today, constructed at the cost of Rs 763.55 lakh, will provide potable water to Thongju Part-I and II, Kakwa, Khongnang Pheidekpi area, Naorem Leikai etc.
The plant has been constructed by the PHED under the Central's NLCPR since January 2004 .
Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi said the government has implemented various projects to provide potable water to the people of the state while expressing hope that the Canchipur water treatment plant will cater to the needs of the people in getting drinking water.
He urged the authority to provide water to the people of the localities at least for two hours a day.
He also spoke about the need to harvest rain water for use during dry season.
Delivering his presidential speech, PHED Minister TN Haokip said that works for the construction of such water treatment plants have been started at various places in the state including to all district headquarters.
The reason for failing to complete the construction works in time is due to intervention and disturbances caused by some anti-social elements, Haokip said while appealing all not to cause such disturbances in the future.
Today's programme was also attended by Langthanbal MLA, O Joy and Thongju MLA Bijoy Koijam as the guests of honour.
