Imphal, November 16 2024:
Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Forces commander in-chief Yumkhaibam Boshan has questioned the agenda of the state government for their silence in the re-imposition of AFSPA in six police stations.
Speaking to media persons at LKVVF office at Sabungkhok on Saturday, Boshan said that sudden re-imposition of AFSPA in six police stations is surprising.
Firing and attacks could not be stopped despite the deployment of central forces in red zone areas where the Act was already imposed, he said, while adding that the re-imposition of the Act in areas where there is no violence is illogical.
He further asked why state government remained silent when such Act is re-imposed.
Meanwhile, sit-in protests were staged in several villages under the jurisdiction of Lamlai police station denouncing the re-imposition of AFSPA in six police stations.
The protestors held placards with slogans 'Withdraw re-imposition of AFSPA in six police stations by MHA' , 'Repeal the colonial policy' and 'Central government imposed AFSPA to eradicate Meetei community' among others.
