Public discourse on "Women's Role in Achieving Effective Governance" held

Chanura Marup of the Manipur People's Party (MPP) organised a 1-day public discourse on "Women's Role in Achieving Effective Governance" at GM Hall, Imphal today.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Aribam Naotuneshwari Devi, retired District & Session Judge; Ningthoujam (O) Menaka Leima, president, Chanura Marup, MPP; Ningombam Shreema Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Nambol L Sanoi College; Dr Karam Kunjarani Devi, retired Associate Professor, Lilong Haoreibi College; Nazima Phundreimayum, general secretary, United Manipur Muslim Development Organisation; Kshetri Tama Devi, former Up-Adakshya, Imphal East Zilla Parishad; Potshangbam (O) Joyshree Devi, former president, Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL); and social activist Jaya Khagembam.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Karam Kunjarani said that women play a vital role in effective governance by bringing diverse perspectives to decision-making, improving the quality and inclusivity of policies, and fostering greater social justice and accountability.
She asserted that supporting and enabling women's political and governance roles will ensure that decision-making processes are responsive to the needs of all citizens.
Expressing concern over the mushrooming of regional political parties in Manipur, Aribam Naotuneshwari said that people of Manipur should support a regional party like MPP which was created to safeguard Manipur's interests and has a legacy of over 50 years.
Jaya Khangembam, Menaka Leima and other speakers pointed out that the active participation of women in governance is essential for promoting good governance, enhancing the inclusiveness of decision-making processes, and ensuring that policies reflect the needs of all segments of society.
They asserted that throughout history, Manipuri women have played pivotal roles in various spheres and now they must take the lead in strengthening good governance in the State.
Renowned artist Narendra Ningomba was also present at the event.
