Imphal, October 12 2010:
A bomb hurled by suspected militants exploded at the courtyard of an executive engineer of the electricity department at Naga River Colony under Imphal police station today evening.
No human casualty was reported in the blast that took place around 6.15 pm at the house of the engineer Chabungbam Rajbabu but damage was caused to a moped (MN0D-5099) parked at the courtyard and the Iron Gate of the house, official reports said.
Local reports said that UG suspects lobbed the bomb from outside the premises of the house.
The engineer was at home at the time of the attack after having returned from a long stay at Mumbai for treatment.
He arrived at Imphal only today after recovery from an illness.
Family members said that during his long stay outside, on September 13, a demand letter of Rs 10 lakh was dropped near the front door of the house.
He has not even seen the letter though he was informed of at by the family after his arrival.
The engineer said, he suspected the attack is related with the demand.
After the blast, a team of Imphal west police rushed to the house for an investigation.
From the splinters recovered from the spot, police concluded that bomb exploded was a Chinese made hand grenade.
