The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) called on the Chief Minister today and highlighted their various demands.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, ATSUM spokesperson Joseph Hmar said that eight of their representatives led by president Thomas held a meeting with the Chief Minister where the union's various demands and the controversy over the census data were discussed.
To the demand of the ATSUM to set a definite time frame for implementation of the Manipur Reservation and Vacancies in Post and Service (for ST and SC) Act 2007, the Chief Minister sought 10 days' time.
Regarding acquisition of land for Indira Gandhi National Tribal University campus, Ibobi stated that the Senapati DC has been given Rs six crores to complete the land acquisition process.
Taking due note of the impasse over the recruitment of Primary Teachers, the ATSUM representatives urged the Chief Minister to extend the term of contract basis teachers, particularly those posted in hill areas, Joseph Hmar conveyed.
While discussing the nominal number of ST candidates recruited in JNIMS, the Chief Minister sought a week's time to sort out the matter.
On their part, the ATSUM representatives urged the Chief Minister to appoint senior engineer, HN Veripam as Chief Engineer of PHED rather than confining him as an Official on Special Duty.
Regarding census, the Chief Minister categorically stated that the Government would do no wrong in the census operation, said Joseph.
