A day ahead of its 12th convocation day, Chancellor of Manipur University Prof PN Srivastava has announced that three new studies centres would be opened from the next academic session.
Manipur University was declared a Central University on October 13, 2004 .
Addressing a press meet in this connection at the committee room of the Vice Chancellor today, Prof Srivastava, who arrived here to preside over the convocation ceremony tomorrow, announced that Manipur University would open three new Depts namely Department of Environmental Science & Forestry, Department of Sociology and Department of Foreign Languages, where Korean and Japanese languages would be taught, from the next academic session.
On other developmental plans of the University, the Chancellor informed that more hostels for both boys and girls would be set up inside the University campus so as to accommodate almost all the students and facilitate interaction with the faculty members.
Vice Chancellor C Amuba, who was also present during the press meet, further informed that appraisal has been put before the DoNER Ministry in connection with setting up a Centre for South Asian Studies in the University.
This would attract scholars from other parts of the country and abroad to come here for studies and research, he hoped.
