Imphal, October 12 2010:
Traffic along the Imphal-Mao section of NH-39 resumed today after around three days of disturbances resulting from heavy deposition of mud and rocks brought by overflowing streams and minor landslides at hill portions between Mao and Tadubi in Senapati district.
With the cessation of rains in the last two days and with the completion of clearance works at the affected areas, traffic movement has resumed, reports received here said.
All the freight trucks stranded at Mao gate and its nearby areas since the last few days have proceeded towards Imphal today with security escort provided by the CRPF.
The force is still escorting Imphal bound trucks from Dimapur to Imphal on a regular basis, the report added.
Police said that a total of 207 freight trucks including 40 oil tankers and 17 bullet tankers (bulk LPG gas) left Mao gate at 11.30 am today for Imphal.
These vehicles will be arriving Imphal late tonight.
All the empty vehicles stranded beyond Tadubi on Imphal side had also proceeded towards Dimapur for their respective destinations, the report added.
