KSA extends hands of help to victims

Despite the help and aid extended by various agencies including student organisations, the present flood has claimed the lives of an elderly woman, though technically speaking it may not be so.
Sixty year old Soibam Ongbi Mema Devi w/o Soibam KHagoi of Arapti Awang Leikai Heining Makhong, who had been ailing, fainted and lost consciousness when she heard the news of the breach in the embankment of Imphal river near Arapti Awang Leikai Soibam turning at around 4 pm on October 10 .
Efforts to rush her to the hospital remained futile on account of the strong water current and she did not regain consciouness, according to local residents.
Many local residents also reportedly sustained injuries in their bid to escape from the flood.
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has distributed relief materials among the flood affected people of Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur district today.
In Imphal East district, a team of the student body visited the relief camps being set up by the Kiyamgei Panthoibi Youth Club and United Progressive Adul Association at Kiyamgei Panthoibi Shanglen and Kiyamgei Khagi Bazar respectively, and provided rice, salt, cereal, candles and medicines.
People of Kongba Irong and its surrounding areas, whose houses have been flooded when the embankments of Kongba river breached, are taking shelter in these relief camps.
In Thoubal district, the team visited the relief camp at Arapti Keithel, and provided similar relief materials.
People of the area who have been affected by flood when the embankment of Imphal river breached near Arapti Awang Leikai Soibam are taking shelter in this relief camp.
In Bishnupur district, the team visited the relief camp being set by Nambol Sabal Leikai Youth Club and Library at Nambol Sabal Leikai community hall where people of Nambol Sabal Leikai and its surrounding areas are taking shelter after their houses were inundated when the embankment of Nambol river breached.
Similar relief materials like rice, salt, candles, etc were also distributed among the flood affected people there.
The KSA team also visited the relief camp set up by at Kokilbon Youth Club, Moirang for the flood affected people of the area and provided the same relief materials.
Relief materials have also been distributed among the flood affected people of Imphal East and Imphal West.
