MLAs' role in controlling Dengue stressed

Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata has expressed desire for the all 60 MLAs to play a key role in controlling Dengue outbreak in their respective Constituencies.
He made the statement during an awareness programme held at his residence at Yaiskul Bheigyabati Leikai to control Dengue outbreak.
The awareness programme held under the theme "Community Engagement for Dengue Control" was co-organised by the Speaker and the State Malaria Officer (NVBDCP, NHM, Manipur) S Priyokumar.
At the function, Satyabrata said that people should take all possible precautions to avoid mosquito bites as Dengue fever/infection could be fatal.

Saying that only the Health Department cannot control the Dengue outbreak, he added that local clubs and other stakeholders should cooperate with the Government to prevent the outbreak of the mosquito borne viral disease.
He expressed desire for the all elected representatives to play a key role in protecting the people of their respective Constituencies from Dengue fever.
He also appealed to the volunteers of the local clubs who attended the awareness programme to raise community awareness on Dengue and ways to stay safe.
S Priyokumar, the State Malaria Officer, said that the first case of Dengue in Manipur was detected at Moreh in 2007 .
Saying that Dengue cases were mostly detected in urban areas of the State in the past, he added that several cases of the viral disease were reported from rural areas too in the last 5 years.
There is no vaccine for Dengue which is caused by the Aedes mosquito, Priyokumar said while appealing to the people to take utmost care to prevent mosquito bites.
He said that the best way to prevent mosquito breeding in and around a house is to keep the areas neat and clean and to get rid of stagnant water.
Saying that water containers should not be left open and tyres, if any, should be pierced to prevent retention of water, the State Malaria Officer advised the people to use mosquito repellent cream and wear long clothes to prevent mosquito bites.
Consult doctors if symptoms of Dengue are developed, he further advised.
IEC consultant Gopakeshwor also attended the programme among others.
