For promoting enmity...FIR lodged against Arundhati Roy

Imphal, May 28 2024:
Imphal police has registered an FIR against Booker Prize winner Arundhati Roy for promoting enmity and hatred among communities in Manipur.
The FIR was registered following her post on X (formerly Twitter) that described Meiteis as terrorists.
On X on May 18, Arundhati posted, "BJP stands with Brij Bhusan, Revanna, Daksh Chowdhury & Terrorist Meitis [Meiteis] of Manipur.
INC stands with their victims.
Choice is Simple" .
A complaint was then filed against the X handle by Desh Raj Yumnam, a youth political activist with the Imphal police station on May 27 .
Following the complaint, the Imphal police station registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Arundhati Roy under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) .
The charges against her include "abetment, promoting enmity between different groups, defamation, making statement, publishing/circu-lating rumour or report with intent to cause fear or alarm among the public, promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes with criminal conspiracy" .
