Imphal, October 25 2026: A curious case that has raised suspicion of emergence of 'iron-eating ghosts' in Imphal has surfaced after sections of iron railing/fencing along Kangla Pat went missing.

The fence along the Kangla Pat, right in the centre of the city, is being cut and taken apart by unknown persons at night, people near the area have said.

Several sections of the fence on the North AOC side are missing.

The fence that protects the Kanglapat, a water body that surrounds the Kangla Fort, and adds to the beauty of the city is being stolen at night, the locals added.

Even after several sections of the fence have been cut and stolen, the police and relevant authorities have not taken any measures to stop the theft, or arrested any person, said the locals.

Some shopkeepers in the area said the railing/fence is being cut and stolen by unknown persons a section at a time, probably at night-time.

Though it is not known who is stealing the railing, the shopkeepers said they daily see many drug users gather on the footpath along the fence from morning till dusk.

"It may or may not be them [drug users].

It could be some other persons entirely [non-drug users].

We don't know for sure.

But, whoever is doing this must be lacking civic sense," a shopkeeper said.

Several sections of the fence missing have defaced the Kanglapat and the city.

The police should look into it and take steps to prevent such theft, said the shopkeeper.
