Imphal, May 11 2009: Three armed persons arrested by Imphal West Police Commandos yesterday who attempted to abduct Director of Manipur State Remote Sensing Application but arrested by the Imphal West Police Commandos yesterday have been remanded to police custody for five days after being produced in the court of Imphal CJM today.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at the office of OC Imphal West Commandos here this afternoon, Additional SP Dr Jhalajit informed that the three arrested armed persons are members of the outlawed UNLF.

Identifying the arrested armed persons as Naorem Nicolas alias Nanao (23) s/o N Samananda of Khongman Zone-I, who is an active member of UNLF; Leishangthem Romeo alias Romi (32) s/o late L Iboton Singh of Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai, who is private of UNLF and Sanasam Ibohanbi alias Ibo (38) s/o S Irabanta Singh of Singjamei Sanasam Leikai, the Additional SP informed that Sanasam Ibohalbi alias Ibo is also charge of the finance secretary of Coalition Against Drugs and Alcoholism.

The Additional SP further informed all three of them were coming to abduct Director of Manipur State Remote Sensing Application Nahakpam Samungou of Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak at the instruction of one self styled Lieutenant of UNLF identified as Leishangthem Umakanta alias Nanao alias Yoiheiba of Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai when the Imphal West Commandos arrested them.

One 9 mm pistol, five rounds of alive ammunition and one Bajaj Pulser grey in colour bearing registration no.MN01Q-1921 have also been recovered from the possession of the three arrested armed UG cadres, the Additional SP disclosed, adding that all three of them were today produced before the court of IMPHAL CJM and remanded to police custody for five days.
