Imphal, October 10 2010:
A fish-can containing hand grenade was found planted near the Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak residential gate of Elangbam Thoiba Singh (57), who is an Under Secretary in the Assembly Secretariat.
The bomb was found laying at a spot inside the residential gate at around 2.30 am on October 8 .
The hand grenade was concealed with fishes and the can properly sealed.
In protest against the incident, womenfolk of the area staged a Wakat Meepham at Lukram Leirak today.
According to the family members, Thoiba has not received monetary demand or threat from any UG group personally but they have no idea about his office.
Protesters demanded to know the identity of the group responsible for the bomb threat and appealed to all concerned not to plant bomb in such a manner and create fear psychosis among the people in future.
Meanwhile, one unidentified person lobbed a hand grenade at the private residence of Revenue and MAHUD Commissioner, Sinam Sunderlal at Keishamthong Laisom Leirak at about 6.30 this evening.
The Chinese hand grenade landed at the courtyard of Sunderlal.
However, it failed to explode, said a police source.
Though Sunderlal was not at home at the time of the incident, his house guards were on duty.
The miscreants reportedly came on a two-wheeler.
