International Dance Day observed

Imphal, April 29 2025:
Marking the birth anniversary of the father of modem ballet Jean-Georges Noverre, the Department of Art and Culture celebrated International Dance Day at the auditorium of MSFDS, Palace Compound today.
Delivering the keynote address, Mongjam Joy, Special Commissioner, Art & Culture stressed on the impact of the artform of song and dance on human life.
Aside from helping in maintaining good health, dance also brings people together and creates a cultural bond between different communities, he maintained.
Numerous dance academies, associations, dance teachers and artists were present at the ceremony.

Additionally, the Department of Dance and Music of Manipur University kicked off a two-day World Dance Day Celebration 2025 at the VC Court Hall today.
The event was accompanied by a national seminar on "Indian Knowledge System in Dance" .
Notable dignitaries present at the inaugural event include Professor N Pramodhini Devi, Dean, School of Humanities, MU as the chief guest; Dr M Thoiba Singh, HoD, Department of Dance and Music, MU as the functional president; renowned choreographer Th Chaotombi Singh and Maisnam Kaminikumar Singh, former Pradhan Guru JNMDA Imphal as the guests of honour.
A souvenir was also released as a part of the event.
The Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) also observed International Dance Day in association with Brighter Academy, Khumbong.
Held at Brighter Academy, Khumbong, the ceremony was graced by Sunanda Thokchom, MSS, secretary, Manipur State Kala Akademi, Imphal; Dr Nganbi Chanu, HoD, Department of Umang-Lai Haraoba, Manipur University of Culture; A Chandra Singh, vice-principal, Brighter Academy, Khumbong; Kangabam Vimaljit, advisor KIMACS and Joshwa Salam, Principal, Brighter Academy, New Checkon.
