Imphal, September 22 2023:
The Langthabal Kendra Club's Coordinating Committee (LKCCC) has said that the re-arrest of one from among the five 'village volunteers' by NIA after being granted bail is an invitation for a civil war.
Speaking to the media at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai today, LKCCC president Yumnam Hitler asked the Chief Minister to shoulder all responsibility to keep the unity of Manipur intact and ensure the safety of Meeteis at foothills and other vulnerable areas since 'village volunteers' are considered as criminals for protecting Meetei villages.
Saying that the village volunteers were compelled to stand on guard and protect their villagers and the integrity of Manipur, Hitler reiterated that the State Government has betrayed and turned its back on the people by arresting the village volunteers.
He recalled that hundreds of women came out voluntarily and stormed several police stations demanding unconditional release of the five village volunteers yesterday while a 48 hour bandh was imposed in the valley districts earlier.
Saying that a public meeting will be held at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai tomorrow in the presence of CSO and meira paibi lup representatives at 1 pm against the frequent arrest and crackdown on village volunteers by the security forces, he said that they will decide their future course of action at the meeting.
He, on the other hand, said that LKCCC was not involved in the attack on the houses of two police officers yesterday.
