Two Commando vehicles set ablaze at Hatta, Mantripukhri

Imphal, July 22 2013:
Two four-wheeler vehicles (Gypsies) of Manipur Police Commando were set ablaze at Hatta and Mantripukhri in two separate incidents today.
In the first incident, supporters of bandh called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of Md Neimuddin of Sora blocked a Gypsy of Imphal East Commando at Hatta at around 8.30 am.
The commandos ran out of their vehicle when a large number of bandh supporters pelted stones at them.
At that moment, some people set fire the vehicle by pouring petrol.
Reinforcement of police force was immediately called in to control the mob.
Police fired several tear gas shells to disperse the bandh supporters.

The commandos and bandh supporters were also engaged in pitch battle of catapulting and pelting stones at one another resulting to casualties on both sides.
However, the police managed to bring the mob under control.
Two bandh supporters sustained injuries in police action and they were admitted to the nearby Public Hospital for treatment.
In the second incident, officials of Land Settlement Department led by Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East RK Dinesh went for land demarcation at Mantripukhri area near 69th CRPF Camp along with a team of Police Commandos.
The locals protested against the land demarcation.
The official team had to return from the spot without conducting the land demarcation.
In the tussle that followed between angry locals and police commandos, a Gyspsy of Imphal West Police Commando bearing registration number MN 01 W/0357 was urnt down by the agitators.
More police personnel were called in and fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Later, a strong police force led by Additional SP of Imphal East M Rajen and DSP of Imphal West Police Commando Krishnatombi controlled the mob and allowed the officials to conduct the land demarcation.
About 75 protestors were attested by the police in connection with the incident.
