Children's Day observed at Chandel

The Chandel Forest Division celebrated Children's Day 2024 at JNV, Chandel with an awareness program, spot essay writing competition and sharing of sweets with about 1500 students of the school.
Under the theme of "Children and Mother Nature", the spot essay competition was participated by about 148 students from class IX and X of the school.
During the program, Dr N Munal Meitei, Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel said that students are not only pillars of the nation, but they are the foundation and roof of the nation.
He also spoke about the environmental crisis and highlighted the importance of responsible use of resources and awareness about the environment to ensure longevity of the planet.
Meanwhile, Amarson Sankhil, Principal, JNV Chandel, teaching and nonteaching staff and officials from Chandel Forest Division also graced today's Children's Day celebration.
Additionally, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Chandel, Department of Social Welfare also organised Children's Day cum awareness and advocacy programme at Unique Children Home, Salemthar, Chandel yesterday.
The programme was divided into two sessions.
In the first session, an awareness and advocacy programme on the POCSO Act 2012 and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 was organised.
Babuna Dangmei, DCPO, Chandel and Khaidem Premjit Singh, LPO, DCPU/Chandel were the resource persons.
In the second session, Children's Day 2024 was celebrated.
The programme was attended by Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, as chief guest; Shankerjit Singh Loitongbam, MPS, Additional SP, Chandel and Th Rengthang Wonto, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, Chandel, as guests of honour and Babuna Dangmei, DCPO, Chandel, as the functional president.
The programme was also attended by members of the Child Welfare Committee, Chandel, DCPU officials, and the staff of all child care institutions.
The event featured various cultural dances, cultural shows, songs, and choreography performed by children from different children homes, along with motivational speeches by the dignitaries present.
Children's Day gifts were presented to all the children.
A poster campaign on the POCSO Act 2012, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 and the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 was launched by the Chandel DC on the occasion.
Approximately 250 children and staff from all the Children Homes attended the programme.
The event concluded with a Children's Day grand feast hosted by the District Administration and District Child Protection Unit, Chandel.
