'Quit Notice could be handiwork of vested elements'

Imphal, May 08 2013: The Quit Notice served to the people of Meetei community residing in Churachandpur district could be the handiwork of certain vested interested individuals and the real culprits behind this whole mess needs to be traced, Kuki Inpi Manipur has exclaimed.

Talking to media persons at its office in Churachandpur today, Tontong Haokip, President of Kuki Inpi, Churachandpur, informed that there is no clue as to who have served the quit notice to the people of Meetei community.

The matter has been taken seriously and all the Kuki frontal organizations have been informed.

But no organization is aware of the quit notice.

So, it is certain that some individuals with vested interest are trying to incite communal tension needlessly.

It is condemnable in the strongest terms by everyone and all those involved in the act needs to be traced at the earliest, he added.

Tontong further appealed to all the communities settling in Churachandpur to come together in facing such elements which are trying to create problem.

"We need to stay in peace together", he exhorted.

Denial Gangte, General Secretary of Kuki Inpi, Churachandpur, who was also present, said that the incident of serving quit notice to the Meeteis settling in Churachandpur and the attempt to burn down a shop runs by a Meetei at Churachandpur Bazaar were very unfortunate.

The culprits should be traced.

Rajen Lai, Advisor of Meetei Society, Churachandpur, informed that as soon as the news of serving the quit notices reached, they accumulated the notices and informed the police.

All the Kuki organizations were also intimated about the incident.

Then, the following day, a hotel run by a Meetei was attempted to be burnt down by unknown miscreants but it was saved by the public.

Meanwhile, Mangkhogin Haokip, SP of Churachandpur, while interacting with the media today stated that an FIR has been registered in connection with the incident of serving of quit notice.

All precautionary measures have been taken to avoid any unwanted incident.

On the other hand, Zomi Council (ZC) and Zomi Students Federation (ZSF) have strongly condemned the 'quit notice' served to Meeteis in Churachandpur.

"The Zomi Council is aghast at the distribution of pamphlets on the fateful night by some miscreants.

It is learnt that the pamphlets contain a provocative, communal and hatred message directed against a particular community," the Zomi Council said", adding, "Such hate campaign is medievalist in nature and has no place in this post modern world.

The campaign is nothing but only a sinister design to pitch one community against another community.

It is highly objectionable as it has the potential to ignite communal clashes.

The Zomi Council and ZSF then put on record that it believes in peaceful co-existence of different communities and would spare no effort to maintain peace and harmony in Churachandpur.

The ZC and ZSF appeal all ethnic brethren to remain calm and exercise restraint.
