The Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has warned of launching an intense stir if the Government does not initiate the recruitment process of Thang-Ta teachers for schools at the earliest.
Briefing the media at its office premises in Palace Compound on Wednesday, KIMACS secretary general RK Leninsana lamented that the State Government has not taken up any steps to begin the recruitment process despite giving assurances to KIMACS earlier to recruit Thang-Ta teachers for schools.
"The State Government has ignored the traditional martial art of Manipur" said RK Leninsana while adding that Thang-Ta is more than just the training of fighting skills, it combines physical prowess, mental discipline and cultural heritage, making it an ideal for inclusion in the modern education system.
He continued that Thang-Ta has been introduced as a subject in different private schools of the State so far.
"Since 2018, KIMACS has been demanding the recruitment of Thang-Ta teachers for Government schools.
After numerous agitation and public movements, the Government had assured to fulfil the demand but no concrete steps have been taken up till date", he added.
Denouncing the silence and negligence of the Government, he cautioned that KIMACS has made necessary preparations to launch a series of intense agitation if the Government does not make its stand clear in this regard during the ongoing Assembly Session.
Further, RK Leninsana urged the Government to make a cultural policy for the welfare of artists who have been working hard to promote the traditional art forms of Manipur.
