Imphal, September 03 2015:
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Thursday stated that the State Government cannot pass any Bill that infringes upon the interests of any community.
There are no points in the three Government Bills that can harm the sentiments of any group in the State, Gaikhangam told reporters at his official residence in Babupara.
Clearing the vague suspicion, he stated that the Government cannot pass any Bill in the interest of a single community and so the Manipur Land Revenues & Land Reforms Act, 1960 (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015, the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015 and the Manipur Shops and Establishments (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2015, which was passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last will not harm the interest of the hill districts.
The Deputy Chief Minister said if there are such detrimental points, they must be directly pinpointed in order that the Government can make changes for the betterment of all.
All three Bills are meant for protecting the interests of the people of Manipur and that the State Assembly members, including 20 from the hill districts, unanimously passed them after finalizing that these do not impinge on the interest of the hill people, Gaikhangam added.
He expressed shock over the loss of lives and properties in the violence erupted in Churachandpur district over the passing of the three Bills.
Gaikhangam prayed for the speedy recovery of all those who were injured in the "unwanted incidents." He urged all to dispel runours and exercise maximum restraint.
The Deputy Chief Minister also appealed to all concerned to come forward for talks for resolving all issues so as to bring peace in the State.
Additional DGP LM Khoute, IGP Kailun and many other top police officials are trying their best to make a settlement with the protesting side so that normalcy can be brought in Churachandpur, he said.
Gaikhangam added that the Government is always open for talks.
